Our collections start with a pattern and it is this pattern that gives its name to the cloth. The patterns are always based on traditional Shetland tweeds but we work to make them different and appealing to modern tastes. Twills, plain weave, basket weaves, houndstooth… all have been made in Shetland and we continue to produce using those patterns as a basis for our collections.
Once the pattern is set then we can start to experiment with colours. The interplay of threads in the warp and weft makes for interesting, unexpected shade and hue. Although the pattern remains the same in each collection, the colours can change dramatically from cloth to cloth.
