The Shetland Tweed Company creates cloths on the island of Yell, inspired by the scenery, the authentic heritage and traditions of Shetland, and the ancient craft of weaving. Kirsty Jean and Andy take pride in working with Shetland wool to make fabric which is soft and yet durable, and which reflects the sea, land and skies that surround our homes and the studio where we work.
Our company specialises in creating contemporary tweeds for the fashion industry. We love to make cloth in the islands where there has been a long tradition of textile manufacture, using wool from the local breed of sheep as the yarns for our fabrics. The slower pace of life here means we can take time to set-up the looms and equipment for weaving, ensuring the quality of the cloth that the studio produces.
